When I was trying to decide a sign off for the blog, I was hoping to keep it consistent and wanted something different. I figured I’d toss in an explanation.

In Florida the pups and I were with Gwyn almost 24/7, but the last week we were there, I flew up to Virginia and grabbed my car. My mom rode back to St Petersburg with me and we spent about a week exploring the area with her. She’d never been to the Sunshine State, and I wanted to make the best of it with her. While Gwyn was on the clock, mom and I got to explore a few beaches and ice cream shops around the Gulf.

Once that contract was over, Gwyn and I both have had our vehicles and lots of driving to do. Instead of having to make regular phone calls to check in, she pulled out some walkie-talkies for us to utilize. The walkie-talkies have been a bit easier to pop on and see if everyone is okay, or let the other know if the pups are getting antsy and need a break. On the East Coast we didn’t have issues with service, but here recently in the Midwest our phones have been spotty.

At one point we were driving in Nebraska to Toadstool Campground, and no joke 13 miles of a dirt road and no service (I can see why Courage the Cowardly Dog was set in the Midwest and I was having flashbacks of the film Children of the Corn). Between the drive to Toadstool and Devi’s Tower Wyoming, I realized the extra bit of communication was probably necessary. We drove 3 hours to Devil’s Tower and hardly had any service.

Before the issues with our signal I was a little apprehensive about them thinking the phones were fine, but they’ve been convenient, and cut down on the interruptions when I’m jamming out to my music or listening to podcasts.

After the long drive without any connection, I started thinking a little more highly of the little walkie talkies.

Does anyone have any walkie-talkie stories of their own to share?

Over and out,

Whit
